Scratch Intro

Learning scratch was fun and interesting. It will be a new challenge that will go with our HTML unit. I'm excited about finally learning scratch after all these years. Programming skills will be helpful for a long time. this first assignment was to do different things with our sprites. Once I got the hang of it, I was able to do everything that was asked very fast and easily. It was a little challenging at first because it was all new but I know I'll get used to it.

Lesson 6

\\studfilesrvr-01.students.rpsdistrict.local\2016\Ryan.Talbot\LESSON 6.html

Including pictures was the hardest thing to do so far in this unit. It took many tries and lots of effort but it finally worked and I'm very happy that it did. This challenge was important to learning this unit the best that I possibly could.

Pre-Quiz Post

I got an 8/25. I don't think this is too bad because I really didn't know anything going in. I need to learn more about coding and obviously some of the more advanced things I didn't know. It's nice to see that I could get some answers correct by just using common sense. It can only go up from here!

Intro to HTML

I used W3 schools tutorial a lot to help me learn the html skills I needed to make the webpage required. This was especially important because I missed the previous class so I had to catch up fast. The site was great in helping me learn what I needed to do to get things done. After seeing what I can do, I want to know how people make such expansive webpages because the simple one that I made was even somewhat difficult! I can't imagine what it takes to do it fully!

X-Ray Goggles Post

The x-ray goggles were very interesting to use. I used it to change the type of background image that was on the screen. I also changed the size and color of the web page. This was new and interesting to see the deep ways that web pages work and to change it ourselves. This should help in the future as I look to make web pages and understand computer science even more.

Eliza Blog

Eliza was a very frustrating program to use. It did pass the Turing test because Eliza was a form of artificial intelligence but it was a very poor form of AI. This program was so basic and barely came up with original ideas. Instead, Eliza just repeated whatever was imputed by myself.  To improve the AI, Eliza needs to be able to carry on a conversation better by having more responses programmed into her and having her be able to recognize more words to be able to respond better.

20Q

We played 20 questions and attempted to pick obscure people in order to beat the artificial intelligence. We won every time that we played because the computer could never guess the person place or thing that we were in under 20 questions. It was surprising that the computer could never beat us because I thought that the computer would have been better than us. It was getting close with some of the questions but could never guess correctly before hitting 20 questions. It was a fun experience in learning the ways of artificial intelligence.

Observation Blog

I found that many people used the Native American software to complete their free design. I also used this software so I found that to be interesting. There were many cool colors used and I feel like that related to mine because I also used many colors. There was a cool house and a cool insignia sign that I saw. I thought these were very creative ideas.

Native America Rug Weaver

Going back and doing the rug design again was much easier than the first time. The graph really spoke to me and I was able to feel my way around doing the patter. The colors were vivid and great to work with and I can't thank them enough

Native American Weave Work

The challenges were creating the dog image. Using the different shapes and taking my time were my biggest strategies used during this creation. It was challenging to envision the dots on where you wanted them to go. Overall, it was a fun challenge and the result came out OK.

App Store Malware Scare

http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/214601-the-ios-app-store-has-been-hit-with-its-first-major-malware-scare

The App Store is under attack for the first time in it's history. Often, android has been the target of these attacks, but now Apple is feeling the full effect. Apple is currently taking actions to remove the threat, but it is still very real. Apple has discovered that over 50 apps are currently effected. This malware is called Xcodeghost. This very dangerous piece of malware gives the hackers entire access to any device that is effected by it. Apple has notified the effected apps, and they are re-working the framework of these apps in order to protect against this malware. Luckily, if you uninstall the app with the malware, the malware is also deleted. Apple may have gotten too comfortable over the years with so little attacks, but now they are paying dearly for it.

About Me

My name is Ryan and I'm a senior at Reading Memorial High School. I had Ms. Conner as a teacher my sophomore year when I took Sports and Entertainment Marketing. That was one of my favorite electives that I've taken at this school and it was also very informative. I took this class because I have not done any computer based classes at the high school yet and I believe it to be an important skill that could be useful for the rest of my life. I wanted to make sure that before I graduated that I would have at least a little bit of knowledge on computers and computer science. I'm looking forward to getting past the basics of this class and into the actual computer science. I want to be able to move on and have a better understanding and a better skill set when it comes to computers. Something you may not know about me is that I'm actually not very skilled with computers at this point in time and that was a big factor when it came to choosing this class. I'm very excited about spending the semester working hard and learning a lot of brand new things about computers and general computer science.
